Learning to play Ice Hockey as an Adult Beginner?
I am just starting to learn to play hockey at age 25. Is it too late to learn? What can I do to improve? My skating is so-so and I never picked up a hockey stick my whole life. So I don't even think I can even attempt to try pick-up games. Are lessons enough? Are there leagues for adult beginners? Please help. Looking for real and serious answers only. Please do not post rude or irrelevant comments. Thanks!
Sure you can do it. I was 28 when I learned to skate and play hockey at the same time. I limped for a couple of months, but it was the balls. You'll be a source of amusement to some of the guy's, but they'll respect you if you keep going back and play hard. They'll be your biggest fans when you start walking around them. Get on the ice as often as you can and work on your stick handling at home. Wear shins and elbows whenever you skate. Being protected will eliminate apprehension and you'll learn more easily and quickly. Ignore the morons who tell you suck. These guys are usually the worst players out there, and they probably weren't loved as children. Play smart. Until you get more comfortable carrying the puck, think pass. Hockey isn't about going coast to coast. Learn the positions, and be where you're supposed to be. Good passes are good plays and they'll keep the game flowing. Study the game on tv, too. Have a blast and keep your head up, eh.
