knee injury...what do you think?
Hi. So, i've been having knee pain off and on for the past year. Last year, i played field hockey, basketball and i skiied. Over the spring and summer, my knee pain went away. During field hockey season this year, i developed shin splints, but had no knee pain. Now that the season is over ( i stil have PE until january, though) my shin splints have gone away, but my knee symptoms have come back.
The pain is around the outside of my left knee. It is off and on. If i place my hand on the side of my knee, on the joint line, i can feel a click when i bend it (at about 60 degrees, i'd say).
My mom is making an appt. for me to see my doctor, but i was just wondering what you think it may be?
thanks
You may have a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament or a partial tear of the lateral meniscus. Rest is the best treatment. Any knee derangement can be readily discovered with an MRI of the knee. If you are planning to do more stressful activities then it will be useful to know exactly what is wrong. At worst, a surgical repair can be performed if necessary.
