Goalie Equipment?
My younger son has decided he wants to be a goalie. He's got experience between the pipes but here's the problem. He's in the awkward stage of youth equipment being too small and intermediate being just a bit big(in some spots) on him. He has a RBK Premier 11 Pro C/A and we just can't get the damn thing adjusted right. Any ideas on how to get everything adjusted right?????? We've had the goalie from my oldest sons HS team try tp help but he has RBK C/A also and he says he has the same problem that we are having now. My son has drafts in 2 days and we NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess I should have put that my son is just moving up to PeeWee, he's 10 going to be 11 in May.
I would suggest going with the BIGGEST Youth equipment possible, its better to have to small of equip where you can still move and adjust where as to big of pads prevent you from going down and reduce your speed.
I am a hockey goalie(15) and I went through this stage several years ago.
Tighten everything to the maximum.
Use PLAYER shin guards if you go with the choice of using smaller pads this will prevent the puck hitting his knee cap.
Wrist guards in case of slashing(I suggest this for any size pads)
Go with whatever he is more comfortable with, I would strongly suggest smaller equip though because it will increase speed, reflexs etc.
Honestly, sometimes I use smaller equip then what actually fits. REMEBER THE SHIN GUARDS THOUGH because
nothing hurts more than take a slapshot to the knee cap.
Edit: I sort of agree with neel and if this is the case just take a puck and take him out side with his catcher and blocker and throw a puck and let him catch it then let him do up downs(from butterfly position) with his leg pads on in a carpeted room then he will be okay with them.
