what goalie gear should i get?
I am wondering what should i get for a beginner hockey goalie. I'm not going to be playing ice hockey just street. I was thing about this one
http://www.hockeymonkey.com/koho-goalie-street-kit-jr.html
tell me what you think.
thank you
the reason that i like this set is because cheaper so if you can find anything thanks for suggestions.
The set looks fine for a beginner street hockey goalie, good price for the quality (my floor hockey set cost around 400 dollars). But if I were you, instead of Koho (which is discontinued), I'd go with the reebok kit (which can be found on the goaliemonkey website for the same price) and in senior size, unless you're younger than 15-16 years old. The Junior sized mask might be a little small especially if you have a big head like me lol, but my brother who is older than me (and bald) can wear it without any problem. But I agree with Tex, you should look into a deck chest protector with proper arm protection if you play with a hard orange ball or a street puck otherwise it will be kinda painful (there are slap shots that gave me bruises). The pads seems pretty similar to the cheap ones I bought, they won't last much on concrete/asphalt use and street hockey balls and you will need to repair them with duct tape or something. Other things to consider are a jersey (looks better don't you think?), a goalie stick with a plastic blade preferably because wood will wear down quickly unless you can afford to replace it often, and knee protectors (it can be roller blade knee protectors) to reduce the pain of hitting your knees on the ground when dropping into butterfly. Tour and Franklin as Tex mentioned is for roller hockey which is a little more expensive, but a great pair of pads for street would be the Reebok 1k or premium iii (or something similar). For pads size, see http://www.goaliemonkey.com/sizinginfo.html#legpads . I'm around 5'6 and use 32 inches pads.
